Scania DC13 Engine Repair: Oversized Liners and Block Ring Installation
Scania DC13 Engine Repair: Oversized Liners and Block Ring Installation
We recently had a Scania 13-litre DC13 XPI engine come into our workshop with a fairly common but serious issue: coolant leaking from the cylinder heads. As always, the first step was a thorough inspection and disassembly.
Once the cylinder heads were removed, it became clear that the problem ran deeper. Damage in the cylinder block bores.
All six liners were removed, and the bores were carefully assessed. We proceeded to machine the bores to accept 1mm oversized liners. However, in two of the cylinders, the damage was too extensive for the standard oversize. These bores required additional material to be cut, and to ensure a proper seal and structural integrity, we installed Scania block rings (part number 2212594). These rings are bonded in place using a high-grade sealing compound, providing a strong and leak-free repair.
With the machining complete, we moved on to the rebuild. The engine was reassembled using:
- New pistons and oversized liners
- Big end and main bearings
- Thrust washers
- Complete gasket and seal kit
- New oil pump
- Fresh oil and anti-freeze
This thorough rebuild process not only addressed the coolant leak but also gave the DC13 a new lease on life, ready to get back to work with restored performance and reliability.
